Our Story

 

Est. 1991

 

Competitive Edge began in Cambridge Walks, Southport, in 1991 as a specialist footwear store focused on sport-inspired design, the detail that gave the shop its name. From the outset, it paired performance influence with a considered eye for style, quickly evolving into a destination for premium menswear.

 

Those early years established the reputation we still trade on today. Competitive Edge introduced designer names to the North West well before they reached the wider high street, building a following around originality, discovery and a buying approach that was ahead of its time. Our history includes partnerships with houses such as Zegna, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani and Y-3, alongside cult labels including Evisu and Stüssy.

 

That period shaped what the store is today: a place for clothes chosen with intention, rather than simply because they are current.

 

Womenswear was introduced during our Southport years, and Competitive Edge developed into a complete fashion destination.

 

Ormskirk, 1996

 

We opened in Ormskirk in 1996, trading alongside Southport for over a decade until the original store closed in 2008. Thirty years on, we are part of the local community and are recognised as one of the town’s leading independent retailers, offering a refined edit of contemporary menswear and womenswear.

Our philosophy has not changed. We curate with intention, champion quality without compromise, and offer a shopping experience built on trust, expertise and a genuine understanding of style.

 

We are proud to be an authorised retailer for BOSS, Ralph Lauren, Paul Smith, Eton, Barbour and Pal Zileri, with collections for both men and women from Ralph Lauren and Barbour. Our womenswear edit also includes Summum, Traffic People and NU Denmark. Every piece we sell comes to us direct from the brand.
